In this four day intensive workshop on the beautiful campus of Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, participants will be studying poetry, picture books, non-fiction, and fiction for middle grade and young adult readers. Open to beginning writers, teachers interested in expanding their writing curriculum, and anyone eager to learn more about the world of writing for children. The optional housing will be dorm apartments with single occupancy bedrooms.

Registration: Evening of June 14th.
Schedule: June 15 - 18 (W-S) 9:00 a.m.to 4:15 p.m.
Nightly Writing Workshop: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The fee for this conference is only $350. 1 hour of graduate credit also available for an additional fee.

Alexandria LaFayeAlexandria LaFaye has been a writer and teacher for over a decade and she's learned along the way that the more you know about writing as a practicing writer, the more you can teach your students. Deborah WilesDeborah Wiles is the author of two picture books and four novels. Her novel Each Little Bird that Sings won the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award and was a 2005 National Book Award finalist. Her newest book, Coundown, is book one of a trilogy of documentary novels about the 1960s for young readers. She taught "Writing Techniques for Teachers" at Towson University and has taught in the MFA in Writing programs at Lesley University and Vermont College. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Sneed B. Collard IIISneed B. Collard III has written more than sixty acclaimed books for young people including Pocket Babies, Science Warriors, Wings, Reign of the Sea Dragons, and The World Famous Miles City Bucking Horse Sale. Before beginning his writing career, Sneed graduated with honors in marine biology from the University of California at Berkeley. To research and write his nonfiction books, he has traveled to Australia, Costa Rica, Southeast Asia, and the deep-sea floor. More recently, Sneed has also focused his attention on fiction. His four novels include Dog Sense, winner of the 2006 ASPCA Henry Bergh Award, and Flash Point, winner of the 2007 Green Earth Book Award. His third novel, the thriller Double Eagle, is busy making state reading lists across the country while his hot-off-the-presses mystery, The Governor's Dog is Missing, is earning accolades from Booklist and many other children's book reviewers. Sneed lives in Missoula, Montana and was the 2006 recipient of the prestigious Washington Post—Children's Book Guild Nonfiction Award for his writing achievements. His books are regular fixtures on the Junior Library Guild selection lists, the NSTA/CBC Outstanding Science Trade Books lists, and many other 'best of' lists.
